The Provincial Government of Aklan headed by Gov Joeben Miraflores, Vice Gov Boy Quimpo and the Committee on Agriculture headed by SP Sovietaguirre Dela Cruz through the Palengke on Wheels (POW) program of the Office of Provincial Agriculture initiated the buying of agriculture produce of Aklanon farmers for distribution to affected residents of Kalibo due to Granular and Surgical ECQs.
The ECQs limit the movement of these residents thus there is a need to provide them their basic needs. As PLGU Aklan advocates upliftment the plight of our farmers, instead of canned goods and processed products, the Palengke on Wheels went around the province to buy the locally produced vegetables of Aklanon farmers.
1,900 kgs of Kalabasa from Brgys. Aliputos and Marianos, Numancia;
860 kgs of Talong from Libacao and Numancia;
338 Kgs of Ampalaya from Brgys. Marianos & Badio, Numancia and Batan;
859 kgs of calamansi from Banga;
Sitaw and Sigarilyas from Mobo, Kalibo;
Monggo from Batan; were gathered to be distributed around 2,000 families.
May this initiative encourage other LGUs to support their farmers by helping them market their produce.
May these vegetables nourish the body of our people and fight the risk of Covid.
And may this effort inspire people to plant and continue to produce food.
