35 female distressed Aklanon ex-Overseas Filipino Workers (OFW) were facilitated by the Aklan Provincial PESO, spearheaded by Ms. Vivian Ruiz-Solano, PESO Manager and assisted by Ms. Lorrebie C. Revis, Focal Person for OWWA/POEA Help Desk to undergo a 5-day Training on Food Processing courtesy of the National Reintegration Center for OFWs (NRCO) represented by Mr. Bernard Sibay, Regional Reintegration Officer of NRCO Region 6 and in collaboration with Aklan State University (ASU).
The training was conducted from November 19-23, 2018 at the BSHT Building of ASU – Banga Campus by some professors of the university. During the 5-day training, the participants were taught with the preparation and cooking of the following various food products. Day 1 – Chocolate Crinkles, Pork Tocino, Fish Ball and Vegetable Embutido; Day 2 – Puto Pao (Asado Filling), Root Crop Doughnut, Cupcake with Icing, Banana Cake, Chocolate Marble Cake and Mince Pie; Day 3 – Chewy and Healthy Oatmeal Cookies, Camote Pastel, Butter Cookies, Siomai Making and Pork Longaniza; Day 4 – Vegie Empanada, Brazo de Mercedes, Pickles (Kangkong, Bamboo Shoot, Pipino, Ampalaya and Ubod); and Day 5 – Butchi, Petsi-petsi and Cheesy Cassava Cake.
Lectures on Financial Literacy and Basic Food Safety were also conducted during the Opening Program to provide additional information to the participants. A closing ceremony was conducted on the last day of the training and the participants were awarded with their Certificate of Completion. Start-up kits will also be distributed to the said participants before the year ends according to DOLE Aklan Field Office Officer In-Charge, Ms. Carmela M. Abellar who also attended the program.
